Charles is the author of the book Without Apology. In his book, he takes a raw and in-depth look at many of his traumatic childhood experiences. In detailing events, his thoughts at the time, and enlightening the importance of exceptional instruction by his mentors, he establishes tools for both the teacher and the student.

   While working at the college level, Charles created the New Millennium Men group. This group examined the issues that young African American boys faced while in the K-12 educational system. Based on the research and information gathered during his time with the group, Charles became interested in taking a comprehensive look into the system that was determined too often overlooked. Dr. Gholdy Muhammad, one of the leading researchers in the country on literacy, invited him to speak at her middle school, which started his pursuit of educational change.

   Charles began to speak at middle and high schools, hoping to help adolescent learners find their turning points and overcome the challenge of becoming the product of their environments. He continues to speak at the middle, high and even college levels, spreading positive educational messages and the belief that anything is possible as long as both teacher and student believe!
